I love being a Black woman. There is literally nothing else in the entire world I would rather be than a Black girl. There is so much that happens from minute to minute in this country and across the world that adversely affects Black folk and Black girls so often bear the brunt of it. Sometimes I feel like we need a superhero. Maybe that is why I love this cape so much. You may think I’m crazy or that I am stretching, but I LOVE this cape. I put this bad boy on and immediately felt safe in declaring that ‘we gon’ be alright’. Crazy right? I know. But it’s true. My girl Dr. Blay is quick to remind us sisters that “we all we got” whenever another example of the declarative love that Black women have for one another surfaces. I believe that. What does that have to do with fashion? Nothing really. It’s my blog and I’ll go on and on about my love for Black girls if I want to. 😉
Ok, back to the cape! The CAPE!!! I saw it on one of my favorite bloggers, Tiffany from the Werk Place and I gagged. It was sold out on the original website so I hunted it down from the designer and discovered a new line in the process. It’s Lavish Alice and they have tons of cute little stuff. The cape is really the only new thing I’m wearing. I’m trying more and more to ‘shop my closet’ this year so you all will see a ton of upcycling on the blog. You should try it! You want to find a practical way to slay – go back in your own closet and re-imagine some of your old faithfuls. We tend to wear the same tops with the same bottom and shoes *every time* we pick out one or the other to wear. Switch it up some and see what kind of magic you make. I always wear this sweater with a pencil skirt, but I tried it with these faux leather pants and loved the look so I went with it.
Check out the rest of the pics (including the silly one at the end – I don’t know why I left it in. I just like it I guess!)
